Happy Birthday for Pals Paper Arts #289

The Pals Paper Arts, under the direction of Lynn Hoyt, have a fun color challenge this week that I just had to try.  I had used two of these colors in a recent challenge and wanted to try another card with a new die cut I’d just received.  Here is the color pallet we were to use:

I didn’t have the exact colors but think I’ve come pretty close.  I’m not sure the photo shows that some of the panels (the green ones) are raised a bit using foam tape.  The foam tape worked best for giving a smooth solid strip.   Here is my card:

Project Materials

Paper:  Blushing Bride, Pistachio Pudding, Midnight Muse–Stampin’ Up

Die Cut:  Coverplate:  Horizontal Stripe–Papertrey Ink

Sentiment:  a last year’s Paper Pumpkin inclusion–SU

Ink:  Night of Navy–SU

Embellishments:  Color Dots–SU

Using the coverplate and inlaying the pink and green strips made this card quick and clean.  I like the simplicity and the two color dots add just enough texture.

Please leave a comment if you can, and stop back again soon.  There are more great cards to see at http://www.palspaperarts.com.  Be sure to check them out.

Hello Sunshine

I’m trying a new challenge this week with Papertrey Ink’s Make It Monday challenge.  This week’s project included a fun technique using a watercolor resist.  There is a great tutorial by Lexi Daly that shows how to combine watercolor and rubber cement to get a fun swirled effect on your paper.  I used an ink pad and an aqua painter to achieve my watercolor base.

The technique takes a bit of time as Lexi mentions, but it is fun and the results are nice.  Here is my original piece with my items cut out.  I’m sorry but I was excited to put my card together and forgot to take a ‘before’ picture.

Project Materials

  • Paper:  Black and White All Over–Papertrey Ink,  black cardstock and watercolor paper
  • Diecuts:  Botanical Builder–Stampin’ Up
  • Sentiment:  February Paper Pumpkin– SU
  • Embellishments:  Rinestones–Recollections
  • Ink Colors:  Wisteria Wonder, Daffodil Delight, Melon Mombo–SU

I do not have a source for the kite.  I looked through several sites and could not find it.  My guess would be Papertrey ink, but it may no longer be available.  In my search however, I did find some cute kite dies that are available.

This was a fun challenge and I will definitely try this watercolor resist technique again.

I appreciate comments and would love to hear from you.  I’m especially curious about the vertical sentiment. Is it to distracting slanted with the vertical lines behind?

Thanks for visiting!

Another Mojo Monday

We had a special treat this week with our Mojo Monday Challenge. We decided to incorporate Stampin’ Up’s February Paper Pumpkin kit with this week’s Mojo design. Here is the sketch we followed:

The Paper Pumpkin kit included 9 cards of 3 different designs.  We could use as little or as much of the kit as we chose.  It was very fun and we were excited with the cards we made.  Here are our cards:

Sometimes it’s fun to think outside the box.  Today’s project allowed us to do just that.  We hope you enjoyed our interpretations and will visit us again.   We encourage you to also visit the Mojo Monday blog for more clever ideas.  (www.mojomonday.blogspot.com)

Thanks for stopping by,

A Simple Smile for Mojo Monday

Here we are again with this week’s Mojo Monday challenge.  This week we worked somewhat separately with our projects, and amazingly found similarities in our cards.  With several layers to work with we had fun selecting some fun prints with Karen  & Robyn pulling out some sweet plaids.  Here is the sketch we used:

sharon’s card

Sharon chose a simple look with her pastels, sentiment, and floral decoration.  She donates most of her cards to a cancer center at a nearby hospital and this one will be included in the next delivery.  It’s a great way to get to make cards and have a way to dispense them.

Project Materials

  • Paper:  Smokey Slate & Crisp Cantalope DSP–Stampin’ Up
  • Sentiment:  Fresh Floral Wrap Ups–Papertrey Ink
  • Stamps:  Just for You by Lia for Hero Arts
  • Washi Tape:  Black/White–Paper Source

Aren’t these rabbits too cute?  Getting ready for Easter and sure to bring a smile.  Karen has really been into her Stampingbella stamps and it’s been so fun seeing her creations.

    Project Materials

    • Paper:  Four Seasons–The Paper Studio
    • Stamp:  Bunnie Pile Stuffies–Stampingbella
    • Ink:  Smokey Slate, Blushing Bride, Pink Pirouette, & Tip Top Taupe Stampin’ Write Markers–Stampin Up

    robyn’s card

Robyn is still making birthday cards for grandchildren.  This sweet one is for her granddaughter–full of sugar and spice and all things nice!

    Project Materials

    • Paper:  Lavender Blue Plaid-Recollections
    • Stamps:  Apple of My Eye & Sprinkles of Life– Stampin’ Up
    • Punch:  Tree of Life–SU

That is all for this week’s Mojo Monday Challenge.  We hope you liked our cards and will leave a comment or two.  We love visitors so come back and visit soon!  Also be sure to check out more great ideas at http://www.mojomonday.blogspot.com.

Thinking of You for PP #282

This week’s color challenge is a bright and fun combination to work with, and Karen did a nice job getting the task accomplished.   Here is the sketch:

Here is the cute card Karen put together for The Paper Players challenge this week.   The cute image reminds you of Karen when she was little–red hair, pigtails and all!  The fun striped paper helps make this card bright and very happy. Don’t you just love the baggy tights and boots? You just have to smile when you look at this image.

        MATERIALS

        Paper:  Stripe– Stampin’ Up

        Stamp:  Sorry Shanna–Stampingbella

        Ink:  Blendabilities–SU

        Embelishment:  Wink of Stella

We hope you enjoyed the fun trip down memory lane, and will check in on us again for more fun creations.

        Thanks for visiting!

A Birthday Wish for Mojo 434

The Snipin’ Sisters are off to a great start this week.  We met early on Monday and had our cards done in no time.  Here is the sketch we followed this week:

        robyn’s card

Robyn’s card is for her grandson.  It’s fresh and fun!  She is concerned it might not look boyish enough, but I think it’s fine.  Comments?  Using the negative portion of the punched candles is a great way to use scraps and with just a touch of gold glimmer her candles seem on fire.

        Materials

Paper:  Paper Studio & Adorn It

Punch:  Party Punch Pack Stampin’ Up

        Sentiment:  Circle of Spring–SU

        sharon’s card

Sharon has been way into her Birthday Bouquet paper this weekend.  She also discovered how fun the new Botanical Builder Framelits can be!  She used notecard sized paper ( 3 1/2″ X 5″) for a quick, sweet effect.

        Materials

Paper:  Birthday Bouquet (both sides) and Blushing Bride–Stampin’ Up

OStamps:  Petite Petals–SU;  Stamping Simple Swoosh–Papertrey Ink

Ink:  Blushing Bride, Regal Rose–SU;  Tuxedo Black–Memento

        Diecuts:  Botanical Builders–SU

        Embellishments:  tiny pearls–Recollections

Karen is looking ahead to Easter with her bright cheery card.  Even though the wind was howling outside, she is thinking about Spring and this card is full of it.  With all the sweet pastel colors, some light plaid, and her colored eggs I’d say she is on the right track!

        Materials

        Paper:  Four Seasons–Paper Studio

Stamps:  All Seasons Barrel of Stamps–Stampabilities

        Diecuts:   Circle Nestabilities–Sizzix

Punch:   small egg and rabbit–Punch Bunch

We hope you enjoyed our collection of cards this week and will check out the other cards in this challenge at http://www.mojomonday.blogspot.com.  We love comments and questions so be sure you let us know  what you are thinking.

Hope to see you again soon!
